artist’s statement

This interactive web site is dedicated to my mother, Bryna bat Menachem Ve’Gela, of blessed memory, who died on the tenth of the Hebrew month of Sh’vat in the year 5768 (2008).

I made a commitment to say kaddish at least once a day for eleven months after her death. This experience has led me to understand the tremendous effort people make to fulfill the mitzvah of saying kaddish. I also understand the tremendous effort people who are not mourners make to attend a daily minyan.

Whatever the motivation for attending a minyan, this mix of mourners and others creates a special community. The fact that we are dependent on each other and need each other to fulfill a mitzvah is a powerful dynamic.
